The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of complex exercise rehabilitation on body composition, physical fitness and functional independent on central nerve injury patient. The subject was a 25 years old female, who had central nerve injury d/t embolic infarct & bacterial endocarditis, and the main symptom was left side weakness. The patient participated in latter periodrehabilitation program after early rehab program for 6 months. Body composition, physical fitness, ergometer test and functional independent measurement(FIM) test were screened before and after exercise program. The rehab program was carried out ROM and strengthening(4-items) program in the early stage. After 2 month, exercise program added gait training, treadmill walking, and strengthening exercise focus on large muscle group. The aerobic exercise and strengthening(4-items) was put in force after 3 month. Body weight(0.5kg) and % fat(2.9kg)
decreased, on the other hand, lean body mass(1.3kg) and skeletal muscle(0.9kg) improved after exercise rehabilitation.
Physical fitness function increased the leg extension power(10.6kg), leg flexion power(5kg), trunk extension(22.6kg) and trunk flexion(2.5kg). Flexibility and balance function also improved 15.5cm and 10sec respectively. After exercise rehabilitation, the patient showed faster tandem-gait(5.6sec) and time-up and go(7.08sec) than pretest. Moreover, Exercise performance on exercise stress test(5METs) and FIM test(from 115 to 122 points) also improved. This program would be useful data for exercise rehabilitation on latter period-rehabilitation program on central nerve injury patient.
